The latest ‘big’ shooter that got the media’s attention was a white, ‘alt-right’ Trump supporter who got his gun 100% legally.
The school apparently had regular shooter drills, that didn’t help.
There was at least one ‘good guy with a gun’ on the scene who did jack shit, because surprise surprise, people tend to have a survival instinct, and in a situation like that, where they aren’t in direct danger, their brains basically scream at them to stay the fuck away. It takes a lot of training to overcome that instinct, and we can’t even train cops to not freak out at a black person existing near them.
All of the right-wing’s usual talking points were shot down by this shooting. So unsurprisingly, rather than admit that maybe, just maybe, easy access to guns is a problem, they went back to the old standard of ‘blame violent video games and not enough Jesus being shoved down kids’ throats’.Never mind that plenty of other countries have violent media and are far more secular, and they don’t have mass shootings at anywhere near the rate America does, if at all.
